Dr. Austin Haught was born and raised in Encinitas, CA. He obtained his undergraduate degree at UCLA, majoring in chemical engineering with an emphasis in biomedical engineering. He then went on to obtain his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine. Prior to returning to his hometown of Encinitas and joining Smiles by Design, Dr. Austin practiced for several years as an associate in a group practice in San Diego.
Dr. Austin believes in giving back and volunteers with Healing California, providing free dental care to homeless and at-risk veterans. He has also volunteered his time with Give Kids a Smile and a mission trip to Tonga, providing dental care to underserved patients, many of whom had never had access to a dentist. Dr. Austin has worked in research at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and volunteered at the Lancaster Cleft Palate Clinic in Pennsylvania. When not practicing dentistry, he enjoys fishing, scuba diving, sailing, and spending time with his wife and children.
Dr. Austin is committed to continuing education with extensive training in implants, CEREC®, and all aspects of cosmetic and general dentistry. Dr. Austin is an Invisalign® provider. He has also completed extensive training in the Pinhole Surgical Technique® and Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation®, a minimally invasive treatment to correct gum recession with no scalpels, no sutures, and no palatal grafting.
